Problem Statement

Across Cameroon and much of Africa, cultural heritage—artworks, traditions, rituals, ancestral knowledge, and local histories—is increasingly at risk of erosion and disappearance.

Local artists suffer from limited visibility, weak income opportunities, and a lack of reliable mechanisms to protect their intellectual property in the digital space. Their creations often remain confined to local contexts, vulnerable to plagiarism and undervaluation.

At the same time, traditions and ancestral knowledge are poorly documented and transmitted, relying largely on oral practices without structured digital preservation. Younger generations, deeply immersed in digital and globalized content, are progressively disengaging from local cultural practices, accelerating intergenerational disconnection.

The tourism sector also faces structural challenges. Visitors lack access to reliable, centralized, and interactive information about cultural and heritage sites, limiting both the quality of their experience and the economic benefits for local communities.

Finally, there is no secure and trusted digital cultural identity that allows individuals, families, artists, or communities to authenticate, manage, and share their cultural heritage online.

Proposed Solution

CulturaChain proposes a decentralized digital cultural platform that leverages blockchain, geolocation, and gamification to preserve, promote, and economically valorize African cultural heritage.

The platform provides:

  • Secure digital cultural identities for individuals, families, artists, and communities
  • Digitization, authentication, and traceability of cultural content (artworks, family histories, traditions) through blockchain and NFTs
  • A decentralized marketplace enabling artists to sell their works transparently and receive direct, fair compensation
  • Interactive genealogical trees to preserve family histories and strengthen intergenerational transmission
  • Gamified cultural learning through quests, challenges, tokens, and NFT rewards to engage youth
  • A digital tourism module with geolocated cultural sites, optimized itineraries, and community-generated content

By combining cultural preservation with economic incentives and interactive digital experiences, CulturaChain creates a sustainable cultural economy that:

  • Reconnects youth with their cultural roots
  • Empowers local artists
  • Strengthens community participation
  • Transforms culture and tourism into living, protected, and shareable digital assets

The platform is designed to be scalable, with the ambition to expand from local pilot initiatives to a pan-African cultural infrastructure.
